Homestead off the Farm - Teen Bedroom
By Jessica Houston
Working with clients who return to tackle other spaces in their home, is honestly so much fun and such an honour. I just love it. So when this client asked if I’d come back and help with more areas in their home, my answer was 100% yes. I first helped them renovate their home in 2017, when we tackled most of the main level and the master bedroom & ensuite. Six years later, some of those spaces needed a little refresh, and we tackled new areas in the home. Today I’m going to walk you through their teenager’s bedroom, which was just SO MUCH FUN!
After shuffling kids bedrooms around in their home, their eldest daughter’s room was in need of some functionality and some personality. It was a lot of fun to bounce ideas off of her and see what she was hoping to add into her room. Once we nailed down the design, everything came together really well.
One of the fun design decisions for this room was creating a focal point around the bed by adding in an arch feature with limewash paint in the center. Because I had been watching the design world go crazy for textured paints and walls, I was so excited to have a client who was willing to give it a try! What a beautiful way to add soft texture and an artistic feel to any room. It was such a fun application process and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.
With new functional furniture pieces for daily life, some pretty accent pieces, and a lot of layered textures, I think we created a pretty dreamy teenagers bedroom.
One of the fun elements when working in a bedroom, is the ability to really mix and play with different fabrics, textures, and patterns. Often in our main living spaces, we don’t want to go too bold (although sometimes it’s fun!) or too crazy with patterns and colours. If mixing patterns and colours intimidates you, a bedroom is a good way to test it out. Between duvet covers, sheets, pillowcases, quilts, cushions, curtains, rugs, and baskets, there’s a lot of opportunity to mix and match with colours and patterns. That was one of my favourite parts of this bedroom. The palette is soft and feels quieter, but there are a lot of different patterns and textures at play. So fun to mix it up.
That’s it! Next up in this home refresh project is the basement overhaul….can’t wait to show you!
