September

It is officially the last day in September and I’m just sitting down to write the month-in-review blog. It hardly seems real that September has come and gone. I have found that this month has brought on another round of life adjustments, emotions, and level of busyness that only comes with this time of year. School has started up again, and it feels nice to have a somewhat “normal” part of life back into our schedules. It’s also brought new protocols and adjustments that have been a learning curve for my kiddos and me. It’s been a tough hurdle acknowledging that school is just not the same this year, even though I think my kids were desperately hoping it would be. While they still enjoy school, I think the extra precautions and protocols that are in place have been mentally and emotionally wearing on my kiddos…which brings extra emotions home. (*not saying any of these precautions and protocols are not necessary, I know that everyone’s safety is the first goal)
Home has also felt full and busy. I’m sure many of you don’t know, my husband works for a farming family in our community every harvest. We both couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity. I’m so thrilled that my kids get to experience a little bit of farm life. Growing up on a farm, I know the importance of harvest time. The stress it can create. As well as the joy. Harvest is always such an amazing reminder to me of how God provides. In every circumstance. And I couldn’t be more happy and blessed that my kids get to hop along on tractor and combine rides every now and then, to also experience what I got to experience as a kid. With my husband and I working three jobs during this time of the year, the days seem to fly by. We both try to keep our household running, help each other out the best we can, and let our kiddos know that we love and care for them. Plus it gives them extra chances to chip in with helping around the house (hello to having a daugher old enough to run to the grocery store and grab the ingredient I inevitably forgot!).
And in the mix, it’s been an awesome month at Liliidae. I have some great projects on the go and I honestly can’t wait to show you more from each of them. I’ve had the opportunity to meet amazing people and talk through some really fun projects and updates. All the projects are in the beginning stages so there’s not much to show yet, but when there is, I promise I’ll share. I’m always humbled that people are willing to have me in their home, take direction, and let me help them create the spaces they’ve been waiting for and dreaming of.
And to wrap up the month, I thought I’d show you a few more photos of this kitchen install that we were a part of. I absolutely love this before and after. The kitchen feels larger, brighter, and has a lot more functionality.
This kitchen had an appliance malfunction which seeped water underneath the previous flooring and into the cabinetry. This meant that new flooring and cabinetry were coming in! The couple wanted to change their tile flooring, which was not comfortable to stand on for long periods of time, to a vinyl plank. Vinyl is a much softer option under foot and it is also 100% waterproof…win win! The trick was picking a vinyl tile that would compliment the rest of the flooring in the home, oak hardwood which had slightly yellowed over time. This soft concrete-looking vinyl tile was the perfect solution because it brings a modern element to the space, but the colouring in it is not too cool that it looks bad with the oak. It actually compliments the oak flooring really nicely.
One of the feature elements of the kitchen was adding extra details to the island. The door style on the island is different than the perimeter cabinets which adds such a beautiful touch to the whole space. It is definitely a way to bring your own personality into a space and make every element shine. The v-groove was added to the side panels to keep them consistent with the island drawer fronts and it makes this island stand out at every angle. Also compared to the previous island, they now have a lot more storage options because we were able to make it larger and add extra seating on both the backside and end of the island. Perfect spot for breakfast.
I love how the blue really brightens and keeps the kitchen from feeling to stark. White cabinets are always a favourite but it’s nice to see them paired with either a colour or a wood option for the island. I feel like it keeps the kitchen looking and feeling modern while still having a certain personality. This blue is such a beautiful option.
So here’s to another month and hello to October….
I’m personally hoping it is a little less crazy of a month with more opportunity to work on projects and finish some undone things around our home….
